OPEN TO PARTICIPATION BY ALL REGISTERED VSS STUDENTS, VSS "OLD STUDENT CLUB" MEMBERS & PHOTO CHALLENGE CAMERA CLUB MEMBERS. Guests from other clubs are welcome but please RSVP since dates may change.
Create your own pinhole camera and take pictures of any subject, including human portraits. Practical on how to calculate the exposure as well as loading and developing the paper / film will be given. Prints of pinhole photo will also be made.
Time: 09:00 at the VSS campus.
Pinhole cameras supplied by VSS R30 for film and paper should you print your pinhole photo. R600.00 for the full darkroom kit- pinhole camera, dishes, scales, darkroom safe light, chemicals, paper and instructions to print your own pinhole photos in your bathroom.

THE PINHOLE CAMERA


24 july 2010:
Available light photography
A photographic excursion to Botshabelo, a historical village situated 7km from Middelburg. Photography of models using only available light, with 35mm film- or digital cameras.
Shoots will take place either in- or outdoors, using the antique architecture the small town has to offer. Techniques such as using reflectors, light meters, how to use 35mm film cameras (steal beg or borrow a film camera and buy black and white film for the ultimate available light experience) and placement of your models will be demonstrated.
Time: 06:30 at the VSS campus if you drive with school vehicles. Limited space available book before hand.
A transport fee of R70.00 p/p will be charged.
There is a kitty for our models and a donation will be greatly appreciated.
09:00 at Botshabelo when using own transport. Bring charcoal, braaivleis, etc. and something to drink.
Entrance fee: R50.00 (estimation).

31 july 2010: City scapes architecture and the zoo
Early morning at the Union buildings and a visit to the Pretoria zoo with a curved ball assignment that will really stretch your creative thinking.
7 august 2010: evaluation
Evaluation of screened work will be done on Wednesday from 19h00. R30.00 will fill you up with your own steak burger creation. VSS certificate for best work done.

Bring tripods and all your lenses.

28 august 2010 : Wildlife photography
A trip to the Rhino & Lion park close to Krugerdorp. Photographing lions, cheetahs, wild dogs and a wide variety of wildlife, with a braai at the central complex where their are lots of birds and the odd small lion and tiger to play with.
Time: 07:00 at the VSS campus if you drive with school Land Rovers. Limited space available, book before hand.
A transport fee of R70.00 will be charged.
08:00 at Rhino & Lion Park when using own transport.
Bring braaivleis, etc. and something to drink.

11 september 2010: Macro photography
A lecture and demo on macro photography, all the tools, equipment and some hints.
12 september 2010: Macro photography
A photographic excursion to Ludwig’s Roses, situated next to N1 Polokwane high-way going North, close to the Wallmannstahl turn-off.
The morning will be spent doing macro photography of butterflies in the 'Butterfly World' as well as photography on thousands of roses Ludwig's has to offer.
Instruction will be on reflectors, diffusers and fill in flash, as well as capturing movement.
If we can catch Ludwig, he will show as what the perfect rose should look like when photographing it.
This is also a good time of the year to buy roses for the garden (colour for 2010).

This photographic workshop can be combined with a follow-up workshop on Audio Visual productions and these images can be used for your AV production.
30 october 2010 underwater photography
Theory on colour, light in water, curvature of light, depth of field and scatter.
Introduction to underwater equipment - still camera, video camera, aquatic camera, housings, lights and strobes.
- Use and understanding of cameras and strobes.
- Test buoyancy and familiarise with camera.
- Photograph models in water.
- Snorkel or scuba.
- Social braai
- Video show.

Visual Skills School will leave for Ponta de Oura (Mozambique) on Sunday 31 October and return on Friday 5 November. All underwater photographers are welcome to join us. Reservations must take place well in advance.
